I went through the same decision in late 1997. Be sure to actually sit down and spend a couple of hours viewing the different choices using ld or dvd or some video source that you are familiar with. Initially, any larger projection TV will seem fine because it kind of overwhelms the senses at first. After you watch them for a while you will see differences in pixels, scan lines, and overall quality.

My choice after a lot of viewing was a Sony VPH-D50Q. That is not the only fine CRT projector out there. I looked at the Sharp LCDs and they did not match up at that time. I have a good friend who had one that I spent hours watching.
