I also have an XV-S55U with Cygnus filter and Da-Lite 120" glass-beaded screen. I'm also having hard time making the color right on my system and I think it's because:

a. color uniformity cannot be achieved with this model due to the lamp. As you know, the metal halide lamp's color spectral distribution's so irregular and also changes over time rather radically.
b. screen's too big and gain's too high. Bigger than probably 72" is probably too much unless you can seat way away from your screen.

And, this one's not supporting 16x9 wide screen format, black level's a joke, awfully noisy, lousy air filter, dead pixels (I used one year or so and already have 10 to 15 dead pixels even though I keep it like a hot rod that I cherish), quite bigger than other models, ... Unless you're really desperate for a 4x3 big screen, don't buy any LCD projectors particularly including this one but go for a CRT projector in the price range of US$12K from Runco/Zenith/Dwin/Barco/Vidikron.
If you can ever afford, believe me, with about 72" screen 1.3 or 2 gain, and any of the CRT projector at the price range, you will be very happy quite long time not like any of the LCD projects that have many catchs and technological limitations. And, you are also ready for the HDTV.
