I second that motion. Are any manufacturers listening?

Does anyone actually buy a big screen TV, and then listen to the crappy speakers and 15W amp built in? I vaguely recall "monitors" being sold in the late 80's/early 90's. Did these lack a tuner and/or sound?

If so, it probably disappeared due to economies of scale. Ninety-five percent of consumers probably relied on TV speakers. The cost of carrying a distinct monitor-only product line wouldn't be justified by the other 5%.

Now that home theater is mainstream, the time is ripe to offer consumers simple video displays with a reduced cost, weight, and exterior size.
