Blue Laser - Impact on DVD???

Posted by Bob Kay [IP: 155.229.37.121] on February 28, 1999 at 23:05:34
Using Mozilla/4.04 [en] (WinNT; I):

I was shoppimg today trying to complete a Home Theater. I asked the Home theater salesperson his opinion regarding purchasing a new DVD player (one that has DTS capabilities and component video) to hook up to a front projection system. I told him I was interested in the Pioneer DV-05. He told me NOT to spend that much on a DVD player at this time because in the next year (approx.) a certain "blue laser" technology was going to double the lines of resolution of DVD's and todays DVD players would not be able to play the "new improved" DVD's. The new players would be able to play my current DVD's but the new DVD's would only be able to play on the new DVD players. I give up - would someone knowledgeable please comment!
