How do I tape a DVD from my VCR?

Posted by BJ Maloy [IP: 208.144.214.31] on March 28, 1999 at 11:16:52
Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win98; I):

OK I just don't get it, I understand that if a DVD is Macrovision "enabled" then any attempted recording will come out poor. However, I am new to this whole HT thing so I think I may be missing something obvious in my set up.

Here is how I have my system setup:

DVD Setup

DVD, optical Out to the Receiver's optical In.

DVD, video Out to the Receiver's DVD video In.

DVD, mixed audio Out to the Receiver's DVD audio In.

VCR Setup

VCR, video Out to the Receiver's Video 1 video In.

VCR, mixed audio Out to the Receivers Video 1 audio In.

Cable TV Setup

Cable Box, coax In from street, coax Out to VCR.

VCR, coax In from cable box, coax Out to TV

Receiver Video

Video Monitor out to TV.

So here is what hapens when I try to tape a DVD. I select the DVD source from the Receiver, select the video source from the TV and hit play on the DVD and record from the VCR. The VCR is always set to channel 3 so that we can use the cable box to record other channels. Whenever I attempt this I end up recording whatever channel the cable box is set to.

Please go easy on me if this one is obvious. :) hey can you blame a newbie for trying.

Cheers--BJ
