Help!!! Steam/heat rising from display

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win98; I):

I have a problem. On my screen, when I am watching TV, I can see heat characteristics rising off of bright characters. The only way that I can explain it is like when you are driving down the highway on a warm day and you can see heat rising off of the road in the distance. It sort of warps the road. This is what I see on my screen. It can be noticed quite visibly on bright text or bright characters, and covers the external perimeter of the object.

What is this pattern and how can it be corrected. This TV is worth over $5000 and should'nt do this!

On my other TV (newer tube type), I don't see this pattern at all.
