JVC HR-S3500 SVHS has noisy picture

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows NT; XEROX DIGIPATH):

I bought the HR-S3500 almost a month ago, and I'm disapointed with the quality of the picture. I've been getting a lot of "noise" (sparkles in the picture), especially in S-VHS mode (regular or ET). I wonder if it could be interference in the cables, normal for this VCR, or a defective unit. I record from my Dish-Network receiver through S-Video or composite. Any advice?
