Toshiba 3109

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 95):

Just got a toshiba 3109. It's my first DVD player. Sound is spectacular, great on CD's too. I am not very smart on technical and hookup. I have a Pioneer Elite projection TV, using S-video connection. The picture is not as bright and sharp as expected, maybe my expectations were too high. Could I do anything to improve picture?

Also, do some disks come with option to view in widescreen mode or 4:3? Although I appreciate the widescreen format, it sort of defeats the reason we buy large screen monitors to only use such a small part of the total available area.
