Toshiba/2109

Using Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Windows 95):

I just purchased a 2109 toshiba and I noticed when I install a disc the 2109 make a loud whirring noise then stops, and also when I hit stop it make the whirring noise, is this normal for this player? I have never heard this before with any cd plaer i have owned. thanks.
