One thing about the Hitachi sets in the store is that they do look very attractive. One brand that usually looks deceiving is Toshiba. Out of the box, these sets look like they are crap. But, once properly calibrated they give you one of the better pictures. They have a pretty accurate color decoder and their comb filter is usually above average. A close contender is the Sony sets (V and XBR series). What size are you looking for? You need to identify what you will be watching most often: DSS, DVD, Cable, etc? Are you interested in 4:3 or 16:9? Is DTV-readiness an issue with you? Two great sets to look at that are comparable in features are the Sony KP-53V75 and the Toshiba TP55H95. Check these out. They are both comparible in features to the Hitachi 50SBX78B. Leo
