36 inch tv or GOOD RPTV for 2000-2500!

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win95; I):

My search for a RPTV is getting very frustrating. I thought I found a great TV in the Hitachi Ultravision. But now I hear there are problems with it. I'm going nuts over here in NJ. At first I was going to get a 36 inch. But my love for sports steered me to a 50 inch tv. What should I look into buying. I'm really confused now. In the stores I've visited, the Ultravision looked great compared to the others. But it sounds like there may be inherent problems.
