Sony DVP-S550D and Yamaha RX-V480

Using Mozilla/4.03 [en] (Win95; U):

Just got a Sony S550D DVD player. I am having a tough time getting it hooked up with some outdated (??) equip. Here's how it is:

TV: coax connection only
cable box coax to VCR coax(in) out-to TV
VCR video/audio to receiver video/audio

the reciever is a Yamaha RX-V480 Pro-logic. It only has a LD input, so I tried it with the DVD-video and audio going to receiver LD video and audio. No luck there.

Can this ever work ? Do I need to upgrade receiver/TV ???
