I sell sony dvd players at the electronics store where I work, and so I am very familier with all the models, new and old. It really depends on how important dts is to you. I choose the dvp-c600d (the 5-disc changer) for two resons 1)It has dual optical lens 1 for cd and 1 for dvd. 2)I have grown used to a 5-disc changer and was replacing my cd player. The new sony dvp-s550d does not have dual optical lens(thats the trade off, you get dts pass through but lose the dual optical lens). I have done listening test at the store comparing dts to dolby digital and i hear very little if any difference between the two. Not enough to justify the expence of dts dvd. I hope this sheads some light on the subject for you.
