I bought the JVC 501bk a few weeks ago after comparing it with the Pioneer DV-414 (also a good unit). The audio and video are superb (I haven't found any glitches so far) and the unit has many nice features (multiple forward and reverse speeds, zoom, digest, great remote, etc.). The only downside of the JVC in comparing to the Pioneer is that the JVC will not play CD-Rs. Also, the JVC does not have a coax digital out. It just has optical and RCA out. Not a big deal unless your receiver does not accept an optical connection. Good luck!
