Help...2nd fried DSS receiver!!!!

Posted by Ed Livingston [IP: 208.253.102.129] on January 27, 1999 at 21:37:24:

I have just fried the second DSS receiver in less than two weeks. I recently bought an entertainment center and hooked everyting up as instructed. Everything was going just as smoothly as can be. I have a Yamaha RX-V2095 receiver and a set of Energy e:XL speakers. I put the 2095 on the lowest shelf of my home built A\V rack, and the next one up is my DSS receiver. The first receiver was working for about a week or two when the 2095 was added to my system and all of a sudden it would not pick up the satallite signal nor tune. It started as I was going to add a local area antenna. When I was in the attic reconnecting the cable (I put a diplexer in for the antenna) I noticed a small arc when the two cables were close to each other. When the antenna installation was complete, the DSS receiver would not work anymore. I removed the antenna and diplexer, but still no DSS signal. I purchased a new DSS receiver (4th generation with DD out) and hooked it up, it worked just fine. The new satallite was a dual LNB so I put one in the bedroom. Both units worked fine for a week or two then tonight I tried the DSS in the Living Room and it won't work. It says it is searching for a signal. The unit in the bedroom works just fine. I removed thje DSS receiver from the Living Room and tried it in the bedroom. It doesn't work! What could cause this? Is the reciever causing an induced voltage in my DSS? The first DSS worked for over a year until about a week or two since I put in the home entertainment center. Any ideas? ......Ed
