Sony MPD-600 laser disc player Posted by Brian [IP: 204.174.244.48] on January 27, 1999 at 22:14:48: In Reply to: Sony MPD-600 laser disc player posted by Louie Depalma on January 27, 1999 at 14:00:25: The optical output on your LD player passes only the PCM signal on the digital sound track to the receiver/decoder, the AC-3 signal is recorded on the right channel of the analog tracks. Therefore, you need to have the RF-out and the corresponding RF-in at the your decoder to get DD. A small experiment to help you understand. Play a Karaoke disk. Normally, the "music-only" track is recorded on the digital track and the music with vocal is recorded on the analog track. Connect your LD player to the decoder with optical connection. Try toggle between analog/digial, surprise!what you get is still the digital track, you won't be able get the analog audio even if the "Digital Sound" icon goes off. Unless you own a huge library of LD's, why spend the money on another LD player just to get DD? For the same amount you can get a brand new DVD player with DD and DTS and you do not need a RF-in at your decoder, the optical or coaxial input works fine.
