Technically, how can a CD-R damage my DVD player?

Posted by Arnel Hernandez [IP: 203.172.15.131] on January 28, 1999 at 19:14:24:

I have a Panasonic A-330 as my DVD, Video CD and CD player. Its manual warns me not to play a CD-R on my unit 'cause it may damage the unit. I just want to know the how can a CD-R, empty or with audio data, can damage (technically) my unit? Does it mean that I can't also play pirated DVD and Video CD since it was made from a rewritable media?
