DVD 2-sided v2 dual layered

Posted by Simon Richardson [IP: 194.201.68.18] on January 29, 1999 at 11:17:46:

Why is that some DVDs are dual layered and others are double sided. I had a laser disc player and the only downside to ownership was having to get up two or three times during a movie. I appreciate that it is possible to buy machines that flip sides for Laser Disc. Now that I have a Pioneer DVD-606 I wasn`t aware until recently that you have to manually flip some discs, now if there is a way around this i.e. dual layers why do film companies ruin my viewing pleasure when there is a way around this ?
