Pioneer DV-414 and Sony 9000es Posted by Tim S. If they can not pass the signal because of copyright laws, how could anyone else get past the law? The 96 Khz option affects both digital and analog outputs. To be able to listen to a 96 Khz disc through the analog outputs without down conversion, the 96 Khz option must be selected. The 48 Khz option is for down converting 96 Khz, so that they maybe output digitally. Myself, I will pass the 96 Khz signal to my analog inputs on my receiver instead of down converting them to 48 Khz to be used legally by my receiver's DACs. I do agree that the manual states "Some 96 Khz DVDs are copy protected. With this kind of disc, no signal is output from the digital output terminal." I feel they just didn't explain the copyright protection as detailed as the Panasonic's manual. Many other's have stated their players also state in the manual that the 96 Khz can not be digitally output because of copyright laws. The copy protection is within the players themselves. Most of us know they are, from the many hacker pages on the internet showing how to break this protection. If there was protection on the signal itself, it couldn't be used by the player's own DACs that output from the analog outputs. What manual do you have anyhow? The page number is 26, not page 30.
