Toshiba DVD player audio dropouts

Question: did you try a DIFFERENT cable on the digital feed? what are you using now - RCA coax or Toslink Optical? Doe the "dropouts" also occur with the ANALOG FEEDS?

If a different digital cable gives "no relief" AND you get "dropouts" with teh ANALOG feeds, then you indeed have a flaky player needing servicing and/or replacement.

If, however, the ANALOG feeds are "clean and complete" and/or you "get joy" with a DIFFERENT digital cable, then your original digital cable has a problem.

That's my few bytes on the issue. :)
