"Component" video, according to "the experts", is THE BEST WAY of transmitting video information. As I understand the system, it consists of THREE SEPARATE VIDEO SIGNAL FEEDS: two color feeds and one luminance.

It's also THE MOST EXPENSIVE system to impliment.

S-video, OTOH, is WAY CHEAPER to use because it only uses TWO signal feeds: separate luminance (Y) and color ("chrominance" - C).

According to "the experts", S-video is "slightly worse" than component in terms of picture quality. Not having experienced a side-by-side comparison of the two, I can't give a subjective opinion. HOWEVER, I can say that S-video is DEFINITELY BETTER than "plain, old" composite video (which is MUCH SUPERIOR to broadcast TV).

Hope this helps a little? :)

Ken
