Depends where you live I suppose (I'm UK based), but many of the region free modifications you can get here also offer the disabling of Macrovision.

I used Techtronics. Several reasons:

1) They've had good write ups about their mods.
2) The mods they offer for some Pioneer models (mine's a 717 but there's one for both the 515 and 414) do not require the pcb's to be soldered etc. They simply plug into an edge connector (I believe you don't even have to remove the lid - though the item is very small).

Only hassle is you have to send your machine to them for the emod (that's what they call it) for some reason (perhaps because they are small and fragile?. Oh, and they're not cheap at about 100GBP. They also do DIY kits that require solder which are cheaper (about 60GBP).

There are plenty of other modifying companies around though and just think, if you're US based you will then also be able to play region 2 discs. Wouldn't that be great - no more sitting still through your favourite movies as you'll be able to get up and flip the things over! And no more of those tiresome extras, just a straight film to enjoy!!
