Sony projectors for idiots

Using Mozilla/4.08 [en] (WinNT; I ;Nav):

Have come about the means to buy a Sony VPH-1031q or a 1270q for about 650.00. I have never seen one of these babies in action and was wondering if any of you out there who own this product can vouch for it picture wise and if it is as good as most direct views (if I eliminate all light). I want to throw this thing against a 100" diagonal screen. Will I enjoy the picture compared to my 36" proscan direct view?
