Is an ISF technician necessary??

Posted by Jason Johanson [IP: 134.129.99.76] on August 25, 1999 at 21:28:49
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0b2; Windows 95):

Every review of an RPTV that I read from Stereophile Guide to Home Theater go on and on about how bad the particular PTV is out of the box and how drastic the improvement is when the ISF technician gets through calibrating the PTV. I'm all for the best possible picture but is an ISF technician needed? Can you achieve the same quality using a Video Essentials dvd? I'd also like to know how much it would cost to have an ISF guy do his thing on, say a 50in. PTV. Also, do you bring your TV down to them or do they come to you. The nearest ISF technician in my case is 120 miles away. If the price is reasonable I'd really like an ISF technician to properly adjust my RPTV. I just bought a Toshiba TW40H80 16:9 PTV.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for your time
