Jeff - I first called Panasonic at the 800 number, and convinced the tech to send me a letter to have a free estimate done by the factory service center. The "documentation" was a copy from the DVD resource page:

The manager I met with used the work order number from the letter from Panasonic, and never even looked at my "proof". He told me that although Panasonic would not officially admit a problem, he knew it was plastered all over the internet, and had a way to service my unit for no charge based on the letter, I think. I don't really know how he justified it, but once he told me I would not be charged, I said thank you very much, and asked no questions!

Hope this helps, the charge would have been around $100.00 otherwise.
