I was having the exact same problem with my XV-D701BK and tried the procedure detailed by Mr. Cumbo and it worked perfectly!

Thanks for saving me the shipping costs and labor cost for fixing my DVD! I just hope others in this situation learn about this fix before sending their units off also.
