VCR still better investment than DVD?
Posted by Jason [IP: 216.192.54.78] on August 30, 1999 at 18:05:26 I've been trying to upgrade my A/V system, and video is the current phase. Obviously, DVD is superior to VHS from a movie playback and sound quality view point, but from what I've gathered, the DVD industry is still far too unstable from an investment standpoint. By this I mean that in simply selecting a DVD player today, its just a matter of deciding how much to spend and what equipment hardware problems you choose to inherit (every model seems to come with one problem or another). Also, I've come across info suggesting that an industry standard format has not even been decided upon yet, and that the DVD players of today may become obsolete in the near future because of potential non-compatibility with upcoming new formats. Am I getting the clear picture? Is an investment in today's DVD equipment like an investment was in yesteryear's Sony BETA format? Is it better just to stick with the old VCR for another couple of years? Any idea when these issues might be finally resolved within the DVD industry? All helpful input is appreciated! Thanks, Jason
