Is component video a VGA signal

Hi Jarek,

If the component input you are referring to is Y, R-Y, B-Y then the answer to your question is no, it will not display it properly. If the component input is RGB then yes it will work.

Some sets have, in addition to component (Y, R-Y, B-Y) inputs, a 15-pin D-Sub input (same as a computer monitor) to receive a RGB signal.

The cable you may have seen is probably simply mapping the RGB + sync on green signal into three separate RCA cables. This will work provided the signal is RGB.

The minimum resolution required for such a connection is 640x480. Most direct view sets that have this capability use the above resolution.
