SONY WEGA XBR, digital cable?

That's my biggest reservation with the Sony XBR - it's just a conventional, non-digital TV. When DTV or HDTV comes out in your area, you're going to need the same converter box that a guy with a 27" Panasonic set needs.

HDTV is available now in some areas (the big ones). By 2003 all broadcasters have to send it.

Keep in mind though that all of the present HDTV ready sets don't support the full resolution. If you buy a HDTV ready set now, it's going to look like old tech in 2003 when the whole thing really takes off.

So I'm in the same situation as you are - except I haven't decided on which way to go. Proscan has an 800x600 progressive display, but I'm not sure if it supports 16:9.
