Looking for a new good VHS VCR and a TV

Posted by William C. Stilwell [IP: 207.172.34.112] on September 26, 1999 at 18:36:45
Using Mozilla/3.0 (Win95; U; 16bit):

I've been looking around for a new VHS VCR. I picked up a SVHS JVC and decided that I had no need for SVHS in my current situation (nobody else woiuld be able to watch the best tapes and all that). I am looking at the Panasonic PV-9662 and the Toshiba M785. I love the Panasonic having the middle (LP) speed for my purposes, but the 6-head set up on the Toshiba is appealing. I am unfortunately not in the know all over on this subject, but I need to know before I make another jump-in decision.
I am also wondering about the quality of the Panasonic PanaBlack tube TV's or some alternatives with good quality. Are the corners rounded or square. How much of the picture is cut off the screen? (important since I play video games and the whole screen is very important.) I currently have a Sony Trinitron and the screen has minimal cutoff and the corners are nice and square, along with a rather flat screen. I unfortunately can only practically get a 20" TV at this point (HDTV is a couple of years away for me) but I want the best one I can get. My problem with Sony is an A/V input jack problem. Apparently there is a glitch that causes a line to burn into the screen when playing a game or a videotape through the "Video 1" option. The line was burned into my screen and never went away. I'm having it fixed (warranty freebie) but I don't want to burn it again.

Help me with any info you have, I would really appreciate it.
