How About a Reliable Player

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; MSN 2.5; Windows 95):

I am researching for my first DVD player. I can't believe all the problems I see posted on the various forums with virtually all players. I realize we are in the 3rd-4th generation.
1. What are the most reliable players out there in your opinion

2. Are we around the corner from a new generation of reliable players (I know Progressive Scan is the newest thing, I'm not talking about that,though), i.e. should I wait a few months for a much better unit?
