Outputs on back of 36XBR250

For example, if you have channel 4 on the tuner, but you are watching video input 1, channel 4 is still output on the TV output. The active tuner is the one that shows up when you select tv, it does not output the PIP tuner, but if you swap the PIP tuner with the current channel your watching, then the PIP channel is on the active tuner, so you now get that on the TV output. (okay thats an overcomplicated answer to only the first part of the question) The Monitor Video/Left/Right output outputs whatever is currently on screen, excluding any display text or PIP stuff. So if you are watching the TV tuner, you get the TV tuner on monitor out; if its video 1 then video 1 comes out; etc, etc. The one exception is it does not seem to do any sort of format conversion. For example if your source is composite, you get composite for the Monitor output; if its S-Video, you get S-Video; if its component, you get nothing :( The purpose of the monitor out is for video editing systems, where you want to view you source, but also need to pass it to the record vcr. If you connect your vcr to video 1 on your tv and then monitor output to that same vcr you get a nice tone and nothing, because you've created a nice little loop, which can be damaging to your equipment. There is a warning in the manual about this. Unfortunately using these outputs won't defeat macrovision (not that anyone would ever attempt to duplicate their DVD video) Hope that answers your questions. -Jay
