I would think that for a large screen that 960i would be better because more lines are displayed. If it was 480p instead, the lines would be more spread out and you would end up with a mini-blind effect that effects other RPTVs in the sub $3000 range. I think for 480i, 240 lines are drawn every other frame for a total or 480 lines, for 960i it would 480 lines every other frame for a total of 960 and for 480p it be 480 lines every frame for a total of 480.

I have a 53XBR200 and the DRC works great with cable and even better with satellite and DVD. The DRC is not just merketing hype, it really works. You can't see any scan lines even from a couple of inches away.

In shouldn't be necessary carting the system back and forth as Sony has in-home repair for these. I have had no quality problems other than the infamous XBR200 green line problem (still not fixed). I would also consider an extended warrenty if it's offered. The price was reasonable so I got it.

I am assuming the 53XBR300 is 4:3 with support for 16:9 using video compression (or whatever they call it). The net result would be a 48" diagonal 16:9 picture (not too shaby). By the way, 16:9 on the 61XBR300 would give you a 56" diagonal picture.

At around $4000 the 53XBR300 is a good deal and will do you for years. If you got a 16:9 TV, you would have to get a 65" diagonal to get the same 4:3 picture size (i.e. 53") as the 53XBR300. You'll not fine that for around $4000. Plus if the HDTV doesn't have some type of line doubling for NTSC (Sony's $10,000 65" HDTV does have DRC) then the picture will not look near as good as the 53XBR300. I know, because I compared HDTVs to the 53XBR200 with NTSC and DVD when I got mine 6 months ago, the Sony's picture looked better than the HDTVs (Pioneer and Mitsubishi models).
