What is DVD like on 28" Sony Wega?

Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (WinNT; I):
I am considering purchasing a 28" Sony Wega widescreen TV. I also have (on order) a Sony 725 DVD player.
What kind of picture quality can I expect from the Wega, assuming a high quality DVD film and connections, etc. ?
So far I have only been able to see a Wega playing broadcast images in poorly setup showrooms and to be honest the picture looks appaling - compared to conventional trinitron TV's.
Would a Wega therfore bring out all of the imperections in a DVD image?
A friend suggested getting a smaller Wega to reduce noticeable resolution, but 28" is the smallest we get in the UK (at present).Brett.
