projection or tv monitor ..help me figure this out

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows NT; DigExt):

I am a total newbie when it comes to this stuff so if I ask stupid questions please understand.

I have a narrow living room. I wish to increase the size screen from 27 inches to somewhere above 40. Some of the larger TV's have such a huge footprint it would make the room small. The cases on many of these TV's are positively HUGE.

I thought a projection TV would be the solution since it really just needs a flat wall panel and the projector could be wall mounted. Now when I started looking at some of these they were extremly expensive. Like $5000+. Well frankly thats more than I want to spend.

So here is are my questions. Are there any projection kits that cost $1-3k and are they worth while from a picture quality standpoint.

Alternatively, are there any Regular small footprint or Flatscreen TV's that are around 1-3k in price.
