Panasonic A110
Posted by Ken Simmons [IP: 209.181.140.205] on October 23, 1999 at 19:54:12 In Reply to: Panasonic A110 posted by Rob on October 23, 1999 at 19:16:59: If the player is still under its 1 year warranty, RUN, NOT WALK, to the nearest Panasonic Repaire Centre and tell them you want a FIRMWARE UPGRADE under the "defective parts replaced free" clause of the warranty. Unfortunately, you'll end-up paying the labor charge (up to $100?) because it's out of the "90-day free labor warranty". If the player is OUT OF WARRANTY, the repair cost will be more - you'll have to decide whether it's more economical to get an updated model. Of course, if you're nice with the request, you might be able to "cut a deal" on the repair charges. If you need some "ammo" when (if) the Repaire Centre rebuffs your request, go to "www.dvdresource.com" and peruse the APRIL 1999 and MAY 1999 archives for the reports on the "defective firmware" problem with A110s. Panasonic is FULLY AWARE of this "problem", but they don't seem to want to "take the high road" and issue a recall on their players. Hope this helps. :) Ken
