Letterbox Distortion on 36" Television

Using Mozilla/4.05 [en] (Win95; I):

I just bought a 36" television and it bends the letterbox on the outer edges of the screen. It's enough to make it annoying during movies and this distortion is particularly exagerated in one corner. Is this normal? Would I have to upgrade to a flatscreen to get rid of it? Are some brands/models better than others at dealing with this problem?
