playing audio cd's on a dvd player?

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.5; Mac_PowerPC):

I have a panasonic a-120 dvd player. One cd that I own is skipping while being played in the dvd player, but plays fine on other "cd players". Are dvd lasers more sensative to scratches etc. on cds, or is my dvd player defective?
