Are more scan lines necessarily better?

Posted by Eylon Geva [IP: 192.147.65.83] on October 26, 1999 at 12:36:29
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows NT; DigExt):

A lot of direct view sets claim to support more scan lines than NTSC (ex: Panasonic CT32SF36 supports 800 scan lines, Sharp 32LS400 supports 700).

My question is, is there any way to take advantage of this feature of these TV's? I have never heard of anything that will display more than the standard NTSC signal on these TV's. I have been told that DVD's take no advantage of this feature either.

Is there any merit to this increased scan line feature, or is it useless?

Thanks in advance,
-Eylon
