SONY PC1 Camcorder Repair

Posted by Dirk Guenster [IP: 205.188.193.52] on October 27, 1999 at 00:12:24
Using Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; MSIE 3.02; Update a; AOL 4.0; Windows 95):

T R O U B L E with SONY PC1

Part 1:
I bought a Sony PC1, was using it for 3 days and damaged it. The housing of the camera was damaged but the camera was still working. I sent it to Sony to get it repaired. They told me that it will take T W O M O N T H S to get the needed spareparts. I finally offered them the money ($1000) I got from the insurance to sell me a new one. It still took a few weeks to get this new camera. Overall this ' repair' took 3 Months.
Part2:
The new Camera was working exactly for the lenght of three tapes and then showed the following:
When I put in a charged NP10 battery the indicater showes me first 56 minutes of recording time. When recording without any break this time drops to 37 after 2 minutes and runs then down minute to minute up to 17 minutes left. It takes then 1 more minute to drop from 17 to empty.

When I record with zooming, switching the camera on and off I get a recording time of T W O to T H R E E minutes. I expierence that with all my 4 batteries.

I called Sony, mentioned the trouble I had with the first camera and they offered to repair the second one for free. I sent the camera in and they received it on Monday 18. October. In a letter I stated that I will leave on a business trip and need the camera back beginning of November.

Guess what. Parts are on backorder again.

If the camera works again and then constantly for a few tapes I finally would like to buy a editing system.
For known reasons it will not be the SONY VAIO Computer.
Can somebody recommend a capture card, DV software and a computer which works with the recommendet capture card?

I wrote a letter (which I have not send yet) to SONY CEO in Japan and the SONY headqurters in the US.

Does somebody have experience if the respond to that?

Thanks for the response !!

Dirk
