Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win95; I):

Well folks, I received my 65 HD1 yesterday at 5PM. Sony only has 20 units built so far so you can imagine the availability is pretty tough. It rolled into my house at 5pm. Previously I have had the Mitsu 73(HD) and the Pioneer Pro700(HD) both total nightmares. As we unboxed it I was very amazed at the look of this TV. It is a work of art. The front of the TV looks like it was designed by the folks at Ferrari. The Lower portion is a brushed aluminum with the etchings of HDTV in it.. Very classy.. The front video input is hidden in a small trap door that you really have to look for. The front controls are on the side of the TV so there are no ugly buttons to mess with.

Okay so hows the Picture ????

Awesome... The big concern for me 1st was that the TV had a wide zoom mode like the Pioneer where it stretches the 4:3 picture in both directions. This is very important so you can watch 4:3 stuff with a good aspect ratio. The Mitsu only stretches it horizontally. It had all the modes you need. The next thing was to set it up. The book makes it very clear that you need to Autofocus the TV in each of the modes. This was Pioneers biggest problem. No Auto Convergence. It is very clear that if you want to have a multimode TV with different aspect ratios, you better have an auto convergence scheme. The manual convergence on these TV's can take 4-8 hours each mode. The picture looks very similar to a 61XBR200, with slightly better clarity. The controls for picture are fantastic. From Digital reality creation with I think is their term for Line Quadrupler to a bunch of really nice preset modes. The set is incredible. I think the long awaited top of the line HD Set is here. Oh by the way 10K list ( a bit steep, but well worth it )

I love it... Can't wait to get home and watch some more...

Enjoy HD
