JVC HR-S750 problems

Hi,

After reading 5-star reviews of this deck, I bought one. But I am very disappointed with the picture.

It seems very "noisy", with lots of background speckle and shimmering verticle lines. This happens all the time - pre-recorded tapes as well, and both on s-vhs and normal recordings.

Its not like so bad that it is obviously broken, I suppose. The machine does actually work. But it is very disappointing that the picture is noticeably worse than my 11 year old JVC s-VHS deck it replaces.

Is this just the way it is with this deck? Or is it a fault? If its likely to be faulty, I'll try another one, otherwise its time for my money back.
