Help...hookup DSS to receiver and VCR

I don't think your VCR and DSS receiver are hooked up correctly to your receiver.

In most receivers I've seen, one of the audio/video "ports" (video1, video2, etc.) is reserved for a recording device such as a VCR. Your post alludes to this being video1. Usually there is only one of these (though I'm not sure this is always the case).

Now, if that is the case, then hook-up your VCR's inputs and outputs both to video1. That is to say, connect the output of your VCR to the input of the receiver, and the input of the VCR to the output of the receiver.

Then, connect the output of the DSS to one of the other video inputs (ie. video2).

Now...
When recording, your receiver should allow you to choose video2 (the DSS receiver) as the source and should pass the A/V signals to video1 (the VCR).

When viewing, use video1 for VCR playback, and video2 for DSS.

BTW, If you have other inputs on your receiver (video3, video4, etc.) connect any other video playback devices you might have such as DVD players, LD players, etc to those.
