Connecting a DVD and Laserdisc to a receiver

Similarly, the 995 has a single input for DVD and laserdisc. What I did was use the DVD/LD input purely for the DVD player, connect the video of the laserdisc into the receiver's Video2 input, connect the optical digital output of the laserdisc player into the receiver's optical CD input. When I want to watch a laserdisc with digital sound, I first switch the receiver to Video2, and then I switch it to CD. This keeps the image input from Video2 on the screen, but starts reproducing the digital signal at the CD input as the sound. Of course, this works for me because I don't have a separate CD player already occupying my digital CD input. If you do have one, you could use another non-video digital input on the receiver for the same purpose, such as the Tape/MD input. If you have both a CD player and a MiniDisc player already taking up both of the additional optical inputs, maybe *then* you should start looking at a device that could switch between different optical inputs.
