Hello there. I have been pondering this question myself. I am in the market for a new 36" TV and realized that the cable box is a big issue. After some research there are a couple of fixes for SOME of your problems. First of all I believe that with cable if you have to use the box you will never be able to do the channel scan. You can however do the PIP in two ways.

1. Have an additional cable box supplied by the cable company.

2. Purchase your own cable box that works with your system and make sure it is PIP capable...(they now exist).

As the previous post stated the tuner in your TV is bypassed by the cable box and renders a nice feature useless.

Hope this helps.

Joe
