PIP and Cable TV

We need our cable box to get scrambled channels. We tried a lot of different things, and our best solution was to use a splitter to split the cable signal out of the wall, and connect one signal to the box (and then to the TV), and the other signal directly to the TV (incidentally, we had to go through the VCR for the second signal, because the TV doesn't have another coax input except an AUX input, and PIP doesn't work from the AUX input; we used the RCA outputs from the VCR to the TV.) What we ended up with is functioning PIP with the secondary picture only receiving the standard, non-scrambled cable channels, since that signal isn't going through the box. This seems like an okay solution for now, and honestly, I suspect that while the PIP feature is cool but we won't use it all that much. We've also considered getting an extra cable box, because I don't think they charge much for rental. This is much more work than I imagined, but it's worth it. Despite all of the problems I've heard about the XBR, we got a good unit and the picture is spectacular, especially on DVD. Not much we can do about the lousy TCI Digital Cable feed, until we get DSS.
