Cable Reception

Using Mozilla/4.05C-DIAL (Macintosh; I; PPC):

Does anyone know how to improve cable reception. Will an amplifier work? Do I have to upgrade all my coaxial cables to those gold tipped ones (monster cables).
Will that really make a difference?
