Bob,

Carver Corporation's fixed repair cost pricing is over-priced in my opinion. To charge the same for a minor repair or even a simple re-bias and checkout as they do for a major output and driver transistor meltdown is silly. I have a Carver Receiver that could use an alignment - but not at their prices.

Your shipping amount seems very high for such a light weight item. I would not put any more money into the unit and ask Carver Corporation to repair the unit at no charge since the other channel was just repaired. They should take care of you. If not - put your money toward a used Adcom/B&K/Parasound or whatever and sell off the Carver.. and wash your hands of it.

: Background: Carver amp, circa 1993; not many hours of use, and all use has been light. 1 month ago, the left channel died; Carver repaired it, checked it out, and shipped it back fixed; the problem was diagnosed as bad "pre-ins". Total cost of fix, including shipping: $300.

: Well, it worked for about a week, and now the right channel is manifesting the same symptoms.

: Question for anybody who has gone through repairs: supposing that I can get Carver to fix it for shipping only ($100), is it worth it? Is it worth another $300?

: Needless to say, at this point I'm pretty convinced that Bob Carver's products and service are remarkably poor. I certainly will not consider buying any Sunfire or Carver products again, it's just too expensive and too much hassle!
