The picking is slim, but I have a couple ideas. You could go with the basic Sonys as well as a service contract that also provides a replacement instead of repair. I see Audio Advisor has a AMC-CD9 right at $199 plus shipping (1-800-942-0220) that should be more player (basically a NAD unit as I understand). There was a Yamaha single disc player in your range but I am not sure if it is still current - worth a look. The AMC might be just the ticket.
