Getting Back Into Vinyl Posted by Alan Maier[SysOp] [IP: 129.37.205.97] on December 07, 1998 at 19:48:59: In Reply to: Getting Back Into Vinyl posted by Jim Stokes on December 07, 1998 at 13:34:35: Jim, Now that you have a fine turntable setup - you need a real phono section! For must less than you are looking at, the McCormack Micro Phono Drive delivers a solid bottom end that blows my Musical Fidelity X-LP away. Alan : So I got the VPI JR turntable and a Signet cartridge (AM30) and I'm running it through my system (Aerial 10T, Lexicon DC-1, Aragon 8008), I've run it for about 40 hour. The sound I'm getting is on a par with my CD sound. The turntable does have a smoother, rounder, less digital sound, and I'm playing/enjoying a lot of vinyl. But the soundstage is not firm and there is less detail and less bass. And... I'm running the turntable through my old Yamaha 870 (using the tape out to the Lex) because I don't have a phono section. So if there is anyone out there who can relate to where I am and what the next logical upgrade is to get to the promise land I sure would appreciate it.
